Alcohol Free Summer Cocktails
This is my first summer as an an adult that I'm spending totally alcohol free, sober, tee total! I decided to stop drinking alcohol after spending time researching gut health, focusing on my diet and attempting to balance out my nervous system. So whilst I do miss a cold glass of rose on a warm summer evening, I'm definitely making the most of my hangover free mornings and much clearer skin. Here are a few of my favourite summer tipples, without the alcohol and with lots of flavour!
Watermelon Agua Fresca
Ingredients
-
watermelon (1/2 cup) - frozen is best!
-
mint sprigs (6)
-
lime wedges (6)
Preparation:
1. In a blender, combine the watermelon, mint and 2 cups cold water; cover and process until smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher; discard solids in strainer. Stir in some sugar or agave syrup to taste until dissolved; add more water if needed to reach desired consistency. Let stand at room temperature until ready to serve, or cover and refrigerate up to 8 hours ahead of time.
2 To serve, pour 3/4 cup agua fresca over ice into each glass; garnish with lime wedges and additional mint sprigs on top of each glass if desired.
3. For extra brownie points, keep the glasses in the freezer before hand.
Pineapple Pleasure Punch
-
Add a splash of pineapple juice and orange juice.
-
Add a dash of grenadine, if you'd like.
-
Top with soda water and garnish with orange slices, then serve in a tall glass over ice.
Mango Liquid Sunshine
To make this delicious cocktail, all you need is:
-
A cup of either mango juice or nectar (you can also use a combination of both if you have it on hand)
-
One cup of orange juice
-
Two tablespoons honey or agave syrup to taste (a little goes a long way!)
-
Water for dilution (how much will depend on how sweet your drink is)
-
Ice cubes to serve in glasses with mint leaves and slices of orange.
You can have fun and your kids will enjoy these too while they're at it!
These drinks are non-alcoholic, so they're safe for the kids. They can help make them, too. Kids will love the colours and flavours of these summer cocktails, plus it's easy for them to involve themselves in making them.
