The Archivist journey began in 1998 down in the archives of the Natural History Museum and is an element of our past that we are incredibly proud to celebrate. In 2025, we pay homage to this crucial part of our beginnings by releasing a range of matchbox designs that have been made in collaboration with the Natural History Museum.

The Golden-eye Duck' by John J. Aududon. The culmination of over 12 years of work, The Birds of America is a masterpiece that features some of the most stunning bird paintings of all time. One of the most valuable natural history books ever published, it shows birds in natural positions and native habitats. Using a variety of materials to create highly dramatic style, the book features almost 500 species and Audubon is considered one of the greatest bird artists of all time.

Archivist is run by husband and wife duo William and Sarah, but over the last 20 years we have slowly welcomed some other brave souls into the mix. With guest appearances by our daughter Madeleine, and the very brave Katie (the first employee not to be a member of the family) to the newest additions at our Letterpress printers. We all share the conviction that gift giving is a joy, and that the world is a bit brighter with a mix of beautiful things and a touch of William’s wit.

Archivist was founded in 1998, (blimey that means that we’ve been anxiously worrying about whether we’ll have a good idea tomorrow for a very long time!). As the name might suggest; the archives of the Natural History Museum is where we first began. Although the archives have changed the enthusiasm for hunting for images has not gone. Collaborating with artists all over the world, we have created the finest range of British Letterpress Cards, Prints and lest we forget our luxury matches.

Ink and Paper have always been central ingredients to the business and now that we are the proud owners of Britain’s largest dedicated Letterpress printing facility, we have the wherewithal to take our famous quality and innovation to even higher levels. You, our customers are fabulously sophisticated and are rightly demanding of not only quality but integrity in manufacture and we are with you on this exciting journey where ‘unfettered consumerism’ is replaced by ‘conscious giving’.

How much is home delivery?

Standard Tracked - FREE for orders over £50 (£4.95 for orders under £50)
Next Working Day delivery via DPD (UK mainland only) - £6.95 orders must be placed before 2pm.
International Delivery - the delivery charge will be calculated in the basket based on the weight of the order.

Standard Tracked are delivered using Royal Mail.

When will I get my order?

We aim for orders, that are placed before 2pm, are dispatched the same day Monday - Friday, during peak periods this may be slower. For priority processing select Express.
Orders placed after 2pm will be dispatched the following day .
Orders placed after 2pm on a Friday will be dispatched the following Monday.
Orders for Next Working Day delivery via DPD must be placed before 2pm.
International orders will be dispatched as above, delivery times will vary dependent on destination.
